For people interested in the ebb and flow of cultures, of ancient and relatively modern history into which the thread of religion is woven, then a tour of Turkey like this is something I’d recommend.
We were two couples travelling with Ertunga and our driver, Omer. Ertunga had prepared for us an itinerary that matched our needs and interests. They worked very much as a team and were always looking out fo us, without being at all intrusive.
Prior to travelling, I was focussed on the itinerary. I did not think about how it would be if the guide was unhelpful or difficult. Having Ertunga as our guide only added to our pleasure as he is personable, knowledgeable, punctual, flexible and has a great sense of humour.
We were particularly interested in the Biblical sites (although everything else was great too, especially Istanbul, Kapadokya and Göbekli Tepe). Ertunga’s insights into the history and culture and how that related to the biblical story was great for me. I don’t think I will ever be able to read my New Testament the same way having stood in these places.
Turkey is such an amazing country with such a long and rich heritage. Visit as much of it as you can. If you only have little time, seeing a little bit (even just Istanbul) is worth it. But I recommend taking as much time as possible to soak the maximum in.
