John in Patmos

John, Peter and James were the three diciples closest to Jesus (Mark 5:37; Matthew 1-7; 12, 26:37). John was very loyal to Jesus during his ministry in Jerusalem, and was the only disciple that was present when Christ was crucified, and Jesus told him to watch over his mother Mary, who was also present at the crucifixion.

Grotto of St. Paul in Ephesus

Apostle Paul arrives to Ephesus in the autumn of 54 A.D, during his third missionary journey, and he lives in the city for more than three years. For three months, Paul spoke boldly in the Synagogue (Acts 19:8). Then he continued spreading the gospel in the school of Tyrannus for two years (Acts 19:9).

SECRET PASSAGE AND A CHAPEL WERE DISCOVERED IN SUMELA MONASTERY

Sumela monastery is located in Trabzon, North East of Turkey. It is nested on a steep cliff at an altitude of about 1,200 metres (3,900 ft). lt was built in AD 386, during the reign of the Emperor Theodosius I. During the 6th century, it was restored and enlarged at the behest of Justinian.

THE ORIGIN OF ROYAL PURPLE

In Israel archaeologists discovered purple textile scraps from the times of King David and King Solomon, about 3000 years ago. In Hierapolis, modern day Pamukkale in Turkey, there is a sarcophagus with the inscription that reads: “The owner of the sarcophagus Publius Aelius Glykon Zeuxianos Aelianus left behind 200 denarii as grave–crowning funds to the most holy presidency of the purple–dyers”.

From Artemis to Virgin Mary

The apostle Paul visited Ephesus several times. In 57–58 AD, during his third missionary journey, he stayed there for over two years. (Acts chapter 19.) Paul was very successful in spreading the gospel in Ephesus, and some people were turning away from the cult of Artemis and converting to Christianity.

Turkey to grant visa-free travel to six European countries
